We are an arms-length body sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions. This role offers an opportunity to help the organisation make a difference to the financial and overall well-being of people across the UK, at a time where the financial impacts of the coronavirus pandemic have been widespread, making our services even more crucial. We are a relatively new organisation that has some exciting projects in the pipeline for early 2021 and are looking for a press officer to support the Senior Communications Manager - Content & Channels, and work collaboratively with and report to the Senior Press Officer, to deliver media relations activity .The press officer will support in driving awareness of the organisation and strengthen our reputation with consumers and external stakeholders . The successful candidate will support in the execution of comms strategies that engage and enhance our audience base and encourage consumers to take action ensuring cut through of key messages in national, regional, consumer and trade media. This role will support the Senior Communications Manager - Content & Channels, the Senior Press Officer and the wider business in delivering an effective and proactive press office function . This is a varied and dynamic role within an ambitious and supportive team, offering possibilities to provide media relations across many different areas of the business and broaden areas of knowledge and expertise. Main duties · To support the running of a press office duties could include (but are not limited to): supporting horizon scanning and reviewing the media agenda, identifying opportunities to promote the organisation, news piggybacking, managing reactive media enquiries, administration such as media monitoring and evaluation, managing press office folders · Work with the Senior Communications Manager - Content & Channels and Senior Press Officer (1st report) to ensure media campaigns are executed and delivered on time for the business in a collaborative manner. · To support the Senior Communications Manager and Senior Press Officer on proactive media activity such as campaigns and projects such as media training, press releases, and promoting the organisation's corporate achievements in the media, and other ad hoc activity such as media audits and desk research · Researching and writing press releases, Q&As, and comments and preparing all forms of PR communication to agreed approvals processes and handle sell into media where appropriate · To be a contact for media enquiries and to help ensure that all enquiries are answered and shared with the team to ascertain value to the business. · Flexibility to pick up ad hoc activity where required - for example third party comments. · To be available and join press office out of hours roster cover on rota basis · To have an understanding and ability to utilise the organisation's social media corporate channels to share consumer and corporate news with stakeholders on a regular basis. · To provide support to the digital function by updating press releases and other content on the corporate media centre · To share as appropriate content with the wider corporate affairs team, including the internal communications function The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the below : - · Account manager level or press officer in-house equivalent 3-4 years experience · First class written communication skills, with strong ability and experience to write press releases, media responses, briefing notes, blog posts and by-lined articles. · Strong organisational and time management skills/ability able to meet both specific and unexpected deadlines. · Proven attention to detail. · A good understanding of the UK media and existing strong relationships with journalists, sound experience of selling in stories to the media · A sound understanding of how an in-house press team works, and ability to demonstrate accountability, proactiveness and confidence when dealing with internal and external stakeholders. · Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders. · Ability to demonstrate PR campaign and project management skills . · Proactivity and robustness, able to anticipate business requirements and media responses. · Resilience and ability to provide rapid and robust responses to external comments or policy developments. · Experience of working in cross-functional teams on integrated campaigns involving public affairs and social media. · Ability to gather and use case studies to demonstrate impact. · To show willing and pro-activeness in the department and to bring ideas to help develop the department processes and function . · Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. · Experience of working closely with and briefing spokespeople on a day-to-day basis if required or in the absence of senior colleagues. · Understanding of the financial services environment an advantage. · Public relations agency experience an advantage. · Experience of operating in a complex corporate organisation, subject to significant public scrutiny an advantage · Experience of brand change communications an advantage If this role is of interest please do apply ASAP with an up to date word version of Your CV highlighting all your relevant experience by Midday on the 18 th of January 2021 .
