Our client is an independent retail marketing and brand development agency based in Hertfordshire.

In recent times the agency has evolved to include digital communications in the mix and also has won clients in the B2B space, with big ideas and business-changing communications, as well as becoming a bridge between ATL and execution.

The agency has 3 broad areas of expertise:

Define - Strategic & thinking, insight generation and brand development from scratch Design - Creative big ideas, concept development and integrated creative platforms, design for retail and brand refreshes.

Deliver - Artwork and deployment.

The various areas of the business, due to their individual clients and processes has been split and ring-fenced, operating in silos.

Due to the evolution of our clients offering (now able to offer end-to-end services from Strategy to Execution) they now wish to bring the Creative Team into one department

(Concepts, Design and artwork) and create a watertight system and process that includes all Creative disciplines in one seamless process, spearheaded and managed by the Creative Services Manager/Studio Manager.

Recent new business wins have facilitated the need for new hires across Client Services and Creative, leading to increased workload and the need for more intelligent trafficking and efficient project management.

Overview of role:

To plan, organize and control Creative delivery to ensure that creative output is produced efficiently, on time, within budget and to a high standard, across all client accounts.

Working with Creative Director and Client Services Director and their associated teams to traffic, monitor and deliver all aspects of creative work from concepts through to finished artwork, working with account managers and creatives alike to improve efficiencies, internal relations and quality of work.

Main Job Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Creative Trafficking (all disciplines, not just artwork - from copywriting to concepts to end design and artwork, across retail and other clients including POS, brochures, digital content, menu design and artwork, packaging design etc)
  • Manage and mentor the delivery team (artwork), including undertaking PDPs (personal development plans) with the Creative Director
  • Plan a production schedule for each project
  • Handling, booking external creative suppliers such as freelancers and photographers (subject to board approval)
  • Determine human resources required, working with the CD and relevant client services teams to allocate work
  • Determine the material resources required
  • Senior artworking services (retouching, layout and all aspects of artwork - percentage of time to be agreed)
  • Make decisions about equipment use, programs, maintenance, modification and procurement
  • Create a new artwork production process, crossing in-design, illustrator, photoshop etc, ensuring that processes are adhered to, with correct signoffs and involvement of appropriate team heads at the right time, to work across all clients, with mini-process structures for individual clients if necessary
  • Monitor quality of Creative artwork output, final sign off all artwork files, pre-printing. before they leave the building
  • Implement and enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives
  • Prepare and maintain production reports quarterly- financial & quality
  • Help estimate production costs
  • Help manage production budgets
  • Implement cost control programs
  • Ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments including Creative concepts design, artwork, print & client services
