Head of External Communications, £55,000, Mat Cover, London Your new company The role of Head of External Engagement reports directly into the Director of Communications. You will develop and implement an uprated stakeholder engagement strategy for the organisation, working collaboratively with the heads of media, campaigns and digital and of internal communications. You will also have oversight in creating an enhanced Parliamentary public affairs programme. The successful candidate will be a member of the Communications Senior Management Team (SMT) and will lead a small team of communications professionals. Your new role In your new role you would be required to; * Be the internal champion for their stakeholders and promote the benefits of strategic engagement among key policy officials. * Develop, implement and manage the stakeholder engagement strategy and function, pursuing this collaboratively with their policy leads. * This will include horizon scanning, insight, stakeholder mapping & segmentation and evaluation. * Develop, implement and oversee a comprehensive Parliamentary public affairs programme and provide Parliamentary briefing in conjunction with the Public Affairs Manager (who is a member of your team). * Build and maintain close professional relationships with CEO, Chair, Executive Team and policy leads, providing advice on stakeholder engagement and reputational risks / opportunities on key issues. * Oversee operation of an effective contact and enquiries database and exploit its capabilities to the full in pursuit of effective strategic engagement. What you'll need to succeed To be successful it is essential to have the knowledge and skills required; * You are an enthusiastic and energetic leader, with extensive experience of planning, implementing and evaluating stakeholder engagement campaigns/activity and experience of public affairs. * You will make an immediate impact and thrive in a busy, intellectual, collegiate environment. * Excellent at forming collaborative relations, you'll have a naturally confident personal style. * You will have excellent instincts, very good political antennae and sound judgement. It will be essential to demonstrate capability and/or potential against the following criteria: * A proven track record in designing and implementing successful stakeholder engagement strategies and delivering comprehensive action plans - ideally for an organisation operating within a highly complex, political and shifting landscape. * A proven ability to evaluate the effectiveness of engagement activities against objectives, reviewing lessons learned and comparing industry best practice to identify areas for improvement for future engagement. * Strong analytical skills in understanding complex organisational issues and identifying the best course of action quickly. * Excellent engagement skills and the ability to create and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of people inside and outside the organisation. * Experience of working with senior public figures and/or senior business executives, or people at an equivalent level with an equivalent outlook and demand.
