My key client is a creatively lead design and manufacture company for the events industry. It's their ambition to be the go to company for highly creative and innovative design solutions and manufacture for both private and corporate events.

They are currently looking to appoint a Design Manager to lead and manage the design deliveries. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years' experience ideally in the design of events or exhibitions.

The Design Manager will assume ownership, responsibility and accountability for the delivery of the design and technical drawing aspects of projects.


  • 10 years + related design management experience delivering creatively focused interior / exhibition / events projects.
  • Role covers creative and technical drawing delivery, with a focus on the technical deliveries.  
  • Good time management skills.
  • Has a good understanding of working and construction methodology with ability to deliver within set budgets.
  • Has held a similar position in managing a small team of designers and CAD technicians.
  • Working closely with the wider team, Production and Construction Managers, in realising the design.
  • Ability to communicate and lead through sketches and drawings.
  • Ability to manage the creative design deliveries and presentations.
  • Highly motivated individual with a hands-on attitude.
  • Has a strong grasp of the commercial aspects of delivering design.
  • Confident decision maker.


  • Oversee the day to day running of the design team and its work flow.
  • Overseeing scheduling of work across the design team.
  • Prioritise, assign and monitor the workflow of the design team and communicate the requirements to the wider management team.
  • Highlighting resource needs and timescales required to deliver the workflow.
  • Managing and motivating a small but growing design team.
  • Managing the process between the designers and Production Managers.
  • Foster a productive and collaborative working relationship between the design team, Production Managers and Workshop.
  • Reviewing and checking design at all stages of the process.
  • Managing the creative process, presentation and technical drawing deliveries.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership, mentoring and potential growth of the design team.
  • Agreeing design team requirements and deliveries with the Production Managers.
  • Ensuring all design team deliveries are achieved and completed on time.
  • Working closely with the Production Managers to ensure projects are delivered to budget, quality and on time.
  • Overseeing, with the wider design team, the in-house manufacture of all required elements.
  • Reporting to the wider management team any difficulties within the team or its deliveries.
  • Making strategic recommendations for improvements in ways of working and processes. Technical Drawing Deliveries and Workshop Production
  • Overseeing, advising and checking the technical drawings being produced for workshop production.
  • Demonstrating a strong knowledge of production and manufacturing process and techniques.
  • Strong understanding of detailing.
  • Ensuring the drawings are being produced to the agreed requirements and standards.
  • Overseeing both workshop drawings and CNC drawing production and processes.
  • Overseeing, along with the wider design team the workshop production.
  • Answering and resolving any workshop queries.
  • Overseeing the production of any information and drawings required for installation.


  • Give support, guidance and advise on the creative design presentations.
  • Overseeing the realisation of concept designs through the development and technical drawing stages.
  • Demonstrating creative thinking across design, use of budget or construction method.
  • Encouraging and demonstrating a creative approach to materials and finishes.
  • Reviewing and checking design at all stages of the process.
  • Overseeing quality control of all creative work produced by the design team.
  • Monitoring the design to ensure is being produced to the agreed brief. Skills and Qualifications
  • Relevant BA (hons) qualification or above.
  • Vectorworks 2D and 3D Proficient (3D an advantage)
  • Strong sketching ability.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative.
  • A good team player.
  • Ability to work on and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Good understanding of materials and relevant construction techniques for the Industry.
  • Good people management, couching and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Has the ability to understand and see the bigger picture, understanding the business implications of their decisions.
  • Manage the performance across the design team.
  • Strategic thinker
