A central government organisation located in central London is looking for a Senior Press Officer to join their busy Communications Directorate.

Your new role

You will be responsible for:


* Communications Directorate to design and deliver integrated media relations and PR strategies which support business priorities and the objectives of the communications strategy
* Developing and maintaining strong media relationships across consumer, corporate and trade journalists
* Briefing the chief executive and directors on media strategy, day-to-day media issues, and preparing them for media interviews
* Establishing the organisation as an authoritative voice on financial capability, promoting our approach to delivering through others, and advocating for our customers in the media
* Raising awareness of the organisation proactively identifying and making the most of opportunities to promote.
* Working across the organisation to ensure PR is fully integrated with all consumer, partner and corporate campaigns and narrative
* Working closely with the Digital team to ensure a joined-up approach to consumer communications, and ensuring that PR activities are amplified through social media and digital channels
* Recommending new forms of PR communication that are innovative and effective and to build strong relationships with the media
* Researching and writing press releases, Q&As , and statements and preparing all forms of PR communication to agreed approvals processes and handle sell in to media where appropriate
* Establishing and maintaining media monitoring systems to ensure all daily, weekly and monthly publications are read and any opportunities are maximised/appropriate recommendations made
* Overseeing and managing the PR agency against clear objectives for PR activities
* Providing press office out of hours roster cover

What you'll need to succeed

You will have:


* Strong media relations and PR capabilities learned through management of multiple and complex consumer and corporate PR campaigns
* Proactive and robust, able to anticipate business requirements and media responses
* Experience of operating in a complex corporate organisation, subject to significant public scrutiny
* Experience of working in cross-functional teams on integrated campaigns involving marketing, public affairs and social media
* First class written communication skills, with strong ability to write press releases, responses and by-lined articles
* Resilience, and ability to provide rapid and robust responses to external comments or policy developments
* Ability to gather and use case studies to demonstrate impact
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders
* Experience of working closely and briefing chief executives and senior leaders on a day-to-day basis
* Broad-based knowledge of working with the media, either in-house or agency
* Understanding of the financial services environment
* A strong network of print, broadcast and online contacts.
* Able both to lead and to get stuck in on the detail of projects, capable of balancing and prioritising multiple projects
* Strong organisational skills/ability able to meet both specific and unexpected deadlines
* Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
* Proven attention to detail
