Are you a story-teller with an inherent nosiness? If so, I have just the role for you…

I’m looking for a Customer Insight specialist to join my client in Leeds. It goes without saying that you’ll be highly numeric and will be comfortable working on spreadsheets and with numbers, but that’s not what this role is all about. It’s about what these numbers mean, and how best to reach and engage with your customers.

Like any good story, this role has a beginning, a middle and an end.

The beginning

You’ll work with stakeholders across the business to work out what they want to know about their customers, and you’ll come up with questionnaires and surveys that you can put out to customers in order to get the required information. (i.e. what you need to get the story moving)

The middle

You’ll distribute questionnaires/research to a customer sample, pitching ideas to them in order to gauge interest and allow you to collection data on what this dataset wants. This is the part of the story which could provide a huge twist - what if it turns out your customers’ needs are utterly different to the business thought?!

The end

You’ll pull together the data you’ve collected and turn this into insight, drawing findings from your research and collating the results in such a way as to provide actionable insight to the business. You’ll highlight key needs through analysing figures and results, in order to assist the business in getting its proposition correct, leading to a happy ending!

Of course there will be other elements to the role - you’ll need to research competitors to make sure that the offering is remaining current and competitive, and you’ll also be working with wider market data to make sure that the business is kept up to date with changes and what they mean.
It's key that you've got strong Excel skills and are comfortable working with multiple stakeholders, but it's also essential that you want to learn and develop your own skillset.

If you have a passion for numbers and love turning them into something which means something, this could be the perfect role for you. This role would suit anyone who has an interest in research/insight and has worked on an insight project(s) previously; you might have done an internship or maybe you studied a business-related degree and you loved the research you did for your dissertation? If so, I want to hear from you.
