Description

As the Stakeholder Engagement Specialist in London you will provide a range of consultation and analytical work to support the company's stakeholder engagement offer for clients. The following list of anticipated day to day duties is indicative rather than exhaustive:

1 Engage with staff - liaise with planning consultants from across offices in London, Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham to identify projects that would benefit from providing stakeholder engagement services to the clients
2 Scope stakeholder engagement projects - work with colleagues to identify the most effective stakeholder engagement strategy for current and prospective projects, considering local planning authority requirements, client budget and project timescales;
3 Prepare fee proposals - estimate time inputs and provide fee proposals for stakeholder audit and engagement services
4 Service Development
5 Thought Leadership - scope, research and write content for potential company thought leadership topics of relevance to our clients.
6 Business Development - play a leading role in identifying and securing new stakeholder engagement business
7 Deliver stakeholder engagement - oversee all elements of stakeholder engagement work from content creation to event organisation and analysis of findings. Whilst each consultation exercise is unique to the project and the local community, these duties will typically include the following elements

* Community mapping and research to understand stakeholder dynamics and needs and to identify the key influencers within a community with whom to engage. This typically involves desk research but may also include focus groups, workshops, social listening or interviews
* Promoting planning proposals to the local community through press releases, social media advertising, local newspaper advertising, leaflet and letter drops, or email campaigns and/or meetings with key people, groups and/or political representatives. This may also include liaising with local media if necessary;
* Designing and building a dedicated consultation website to incorporate the outline of proposals, a timeline events, and an interactive feedback form. You will also be required to monitor website performance through Google Analytics. No previous experience is necessary as training will be provided, but experience of building websites using WordPress or similar would be advantageous
* Liaison and engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, including: local community groups, local amenity groups, social media groups, organisational stakeholders, local business; statutory consultees on planning applications and elected politicians
* Organising and planning workshops or focus groups, including: working with the Indigo graphics team or client's designers/architects to create engaging materials to prompt discussion; recruiting participants; moderating the event; and providing written analysis of findings;
* Organising public consultation events including: working closely with the Indigo graphics team to create engaging content; booking and organising a suitable venue; prepare hard copy feedback forms and working with the support team to ensure data entry of all responses from the event;
* Preparing robust but engaging written statements of community engagement either as a standalone report or as a section within the Planning Statement to outline the outcomes of the consultation exercise;
* Researching, designing and implementing programmes for engaging with elected representatives to understand their views and facilitate discussions about the issues likely to arise, or perceived to result from, the proposals; and;
* Providing ongoing monitoring of stakeholder reactions to our planning proposals and to make recommendations for any responses required. You will be responsible for keeping the client and planning team abreast of stakeholder feedback and for advising colleagues and the client of evolving risks which may affect the planning decision. All feedback needs to be presented in a visually engaging way to highlight which aspects of a development are securing support and which aspects are not.

Profile

The successful candidate could be a stakeholder engagement expert with experience of the planning process or a planner with demonstrable experience of leading successful stakeholder engagement. He or she might have worked in strategic communications or political engagement.

We would anticipate the strongest candidates having:

* At least five years post-qualification work experience in a stakeholder engagement, communications or planning environment, ideally with practical experience using both digital and non-digital consultation tools;
* A strong degree level qualification in a social science subject;
* Relevant post-graduate experience, ideally in a stakeholder engagement or planning-related commercial environment;
* Some understanding of local and central government, and of the other organisations involved in or relevant to the planning system; and a commitment to continued professional and skills development.
