Marketing Manager 

Job Purpose 

To develop and implement the marketing and brand strategy for the John West Core portfolio in order to raise product and brand profile, drive market share, increase sales and margin contribution %age.  This portfolio is the key pillar of the John West brand accounting for over 70% of Net Sales Value (NSV) and  Gross Profit delivery for the brand.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Ensure P&L delivery for Core Portfolio (all products in market more than 2 years)  
  • Management of Core Brand Team (SBM & TU Management Trainee)
  • Lead the “Tuna Business Team”, developing Brand Strategy for associated products including: consumer positioning, competitive positioning, distribution, pricing and range based on sound consumer insights and robust analysis
  • Research and develop the strategic vision for the No Drain range to ensure that it continues to act a growth engine for the John West brand and that the overall ETE MC of Total John West Tuna is enhanced
  • Management of the Innovate & Renovate (I&R) process within the core portfolio, successfully implementing agreed new initiatives
  • Management, development and implementation of core related Global projects e.g. Mirror 
  • Develop communications plans for core portfolio to drive awareness and relevance for everyday usage
  • Track and report on brand performance against agreed KPI's and ensure delivery of agreed annual budget
  • Management of marketing spend against agreed budget and to target efficiency savings where possible.

Key outputs (80% of role)

  • Management of Core Brand Team (2 direct reports)
  • Leadership of the Tuna Business team, preparation and delivery of a monthly update presentation to the Exec
  • Delivery of the annual Core portfolio financial objectives (Tonnes, NSV and End To End MC)
  • Delivery of Core section of the annual John West brand plan whilst also contributing to the delivery of the overall John West brand plan
  • Development and delivery of any strategic initiatives within core portfolio that meet the %GP aspirations of the John West brand.
  • Delivery of any core related Global innovation projects e.g. Mirror

Person Specification

  • BA Graduate (any discipline)
  • Proven post qualification experience, FMCG preferred, but not essential
  • Ability to work on own initiative and anticipate issues, trends and opportunities for improvement and present compelling recommendations for change
  • Ability to take initiative and lead cross-functional teams
  • A natural relationship builder, is able to relate to a wider cross section of people
  • Ambitious, driven, results oriented and self-motivated 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to adapt styles according to the audience, and to manage and influence senior stakeholders
  • Not afraid to challenge others and the status quo 
  • Highly creative with the commitment to deliver and encourage fresh ideas 
  • A collaborative team player
  • Good attention to detail is imperative 
  • Excel and PowerPoint skills are essential
