Media and Communications Officer -Permanent Job £30,000 -East London.

To support the Media and Communications Manager with press and communications activities, enhancing reputation. At the same time this role will also support marketing activities with content creation to encourage recruitment, in line with the directorate's Global Engagement Strategy.

Role Responsibilities include:

* Supporting the Media and Communications Manager with public relations plans by writing news releases (at times to tight deadlines), selling into key media outlets, planning and implementing campaigns, briefing colleagues at all levels, including members of the Executive Team, monitoring and logging coverage and nurturing relationships with journalists.
* Additional PR and communications related activities, and activities in support of the directorates wider strategy, as required.
* Management and coordination of the weekly internal staff/student newsletter and assisting with the regular internal staff newsletter plus other internal communications activities.
* Support the Marketing Team by creating, proofreading and repurposing content to encourage the recruitment of students in line with the directorate strategy.
* Work closely with the Digital Content Manager to ensure content is intertwined across all communications channels and optimised for search engines.
* Management of institutional social media channels (including but not exclusively Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn) in collaboration with the Marketing Team, evaluating progress regularly via analytics and making recommendations for improvements.
* Editing and publishing content on both the intranet and website.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:-

* Degree/qualification in journalism, PR, communications or related subject
* Have knowledge or experience of how media channels operate, how to gain PR coverage for an organisation and how to sell to influence feature writers, news desks and relevant trade journalists.
* Have knowledge or experience of internal communications and its importance. Have an understanding of planning and implementing communication and marketing plans and evaluation.
* Be familiar with content management systems and social media channels and analytics
* Have excellent writing skills, an eye for detail and the ability to write to tight deadlines. Be able to repurpose and create creative content to attract students. Have experience working within the
* Higher Education sector
* Understands the critical importance of income generation, in particular from student recruitment, and is alert to the opportunities for increasing income from existing or new sources, taking action as necessary.
