European Director - Strategic Analytics & Business Insight

Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills with a track record gained in a leading FMCG company or agency/consultancy environment, are essential for this challenging role leading a new analytics function for a global powerhouse in the personal care.  Working alongside brand, commercial, innovation, finance and consumer/shopper insight teams, you will establish the role of analytics as a strategic growth driver - embedding rigorous analysis and application of data across the business in areas including ROI analysis, market mix modelling, pricing & promotion elasticity, promotional optimisation and predictive analytics.

This is a role for a big picture thinker with extensive team leadership expereince, who is also 100% on top of the detail; someone who can develop clear, actionable conclusions from multiple data sources; synthesising the implications and developing recommendations that have impact across the business; recruiting and developing a team of like-minded individuals to ahieve these goals. 

Specific responsibilities in this role include:

  • Building annual & 3 year strategic analytic plans to support all the above business strategies and goals.
  • Leading the implementation of strategic analytic initiatives including market mix modelling, revenue management, shopper decision hierarchies and portfolio optimisation.
  • Identifying core analytics insights and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive the activation of learnings, track business results, assess business impact and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Consulting with Brand and Commercial partners on key issues and defining the best analytic solutions in conjunction with key strategic suppliers including Kantar, IRI and Nielsen.
  • Identifying new areas of advanced analytics for potential business application and developing initiatives to train and develop capability in relevant personnel.
  • Recruiting and managing a team responsible for business diagnostics  and advanced analytics support.  

Skills Checklist

  • Proven experience in FMCG including extensive experience managing syndicated/continuous data and advanced analytics.  Experience working across multiple geographies is essential.
  • Expert level ability in measuring business performance using retail and panel data, in particular new product tracking, segmentation, shopper conversion/leakage, penetration and brand switching.
  • Knowledge of shopper analytics, in particular dunnhumby and other shopper data.
  • Ideally a good understanding of statistical modelling techniques and software, possibly including regression and one or more of SQL, SAS, SPSS.
  • A strong academic background, ideally gained in a numerate or analytical discipline.
  • Personal presence that commands respect/trust and the ability to build strong relationships quickly.
  • An inquisitive, proactive and challenging approach - able to identify opportunities for improvement and proactively work with other functions to gain buy-in and initiate change.
