Director of Communications and Marketing, Europe and Eurasia & Africa

Reporting directly to the Regional President, Europe and a matrix reporting line to the Group Chief Communications Officer, you will lead the development and implementation of the company's corporate and marketing communications initiatives across the 19 markets in Europe where it operates as well as its smaller Eurasia and Africa region which includes the Middle East, Turkey and Russia.

This is a varied, interesting and hands-on role in a dynamic organisation that will suit a results-focused professional with strong communications experience and skills combined with a knowledge and appreciation of effective marketing channels.

You will lead a strong team of approximately 20 marcomms professionals in London and in key countries across these regions. You will work with them to maintain and build the company's market profile through proactive PR and other corporate communications activity, the planning and delivery of effective customer and product marketing campaigns, and a programme of internal communications activity. 

Key responsibilities

Corporate communications

  • Serve as the primary regional contact point and spokesperson with media, responding to journalist enquiries and developing opportunities to build Chubb's share of voice in the region.
  • Develop and deliver a proactive regional PR, media relations and social media programme, working closely with your media relations manager and the company's retained PR agencies in key countries.
  • Oversee delivery of the region's external announcements and thought leadership activity.
  • Provide communications counsel to the regional president and other key executives as well as support through speechwriting and drafting of articles and other content.
  • Be responsible for issue management, co-ordinating with regional executives and Group Communications on sensitive or critical topics as appropriate and managing the regional crisis communications plan.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's external communications policies.

Brand and marketing

  • Represent, promote and defend the Chubb brand throughout the region, ensuring consistency and compliance with brand guidelines.
  • Working with your team of segment marketing leaders, ensure the effective use of the full marketing mix (including printed and online collateral, content marketing and thought leadership, digital marketing and newsletters, web presence and advertising) to support key customer segments and product lines in achieving their business goals.
  • Develop and deliver effective and targeted product marketing plans for priority customer segments and business lines, together with your team.
  • Identify, create and deliver appropriate Chubb and third-party event opportunities to reach brokers, clients and other key audiences, working with your regional event manager and the country teams.

Internal communications and corporate sustainability

  • With the support of your internal communications manager, ensure the effective delivery of news and business strategy content to employees in the region, using an effective mix of channels including the company's collaborative intranet, e-newsletters, events and video conferences.
  • Collaborate with HR and business units on important engagement and change initiatives to support integration, embed the Chubb culture and drive employee engagement.
  • Work with your group communications and regional HR colleagues to communicate and promote the company's charitable, diversity and inclusion and environmental activity internally and externally.


  • Previous experience of managing corporate communications in a commercial and complex business  environment essential
  • An appreciation of the full marketing communications mix and demonstrable ability to apply it to support specific business initiatives essential
  • Practical understanding of PR and working with the media essential
  • Experience of managing a team, ideally in an international and/ or matrix environment
  • Demonstrable experience of managing budgets and maximising value for money
  • Knowledge of the financial services sector in general, and the insurance industry in particular, is highly desirable

Skills and behaviours

  • Excellent written communication skills with a flair for drafting copy in different formats
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven experience of working with senior executives as part of a senior management team 
  • A results-focused self-starter 
  • Both a ‘thinker' and a ‘doer' - equally comfortable working on strategy and planning as on tactical hands-on delivery
  • Fluent business English essential with knowledge of any other key European languages useful
