To promote the Charities work and concerns to the UK media and contribution to relevant and effective advocacy through relationship building with key journalists, responding to media enquiries, issuing press releases and other information, placing stories and contributing to the organisation's output through the website, social media and publications. To Project manage selected major media events and projects (eg PR conferences) working across teams

Client Details

Charity I am working with was established in the 1980s in response to widespread famine. The Charity has grown into a well respected aid agency in disaster relief and ongoing development of people in over 30 countries.


Act as a first point of contact or referral for media enquiries, ensuring a prompt and professional response.

Monitor key media to identify opportunities for positive coverage and negative coverage requiring rebuttal.

Develop strong relationships with key journalists to facilitate strong coverage

Research and write press releases, media briefings, articles for publications, Q&As, key messages, position statements and promotional literature as required.

Organise press conferences, receptions and other media relations events.

Ensure a prompt and effective media relations response to humanitarian emergencies.

Assist the Web & Social Media Editor as required with writing and posting social media content stemming from the current media agenda.

Travel as required to accompany media/advocacy/celebrity field visits

Assist the External Relations team with advocacy projects

Assist in the development of corporate and project-based media strategies and annual media relations planning.Assist the Head of Communications and colleagues as required with developing communications resources such as presentations, speeches and key messages.


Excellent communications skills - written, verbal and listening - with an aptitude for cause marketing/persuasion.

Excellent journalistic skills - including research, writing and editing.

Strong networking and people skills

Passionate about development work, with some knowledge of humanitarian values.

Solid understanding of UK traditional, new and social media. Knowledge of oriental media is an advantage.

Ability to manage multiple projects.

Job Offer

6 month fixed term contract - full time - £30,000 - £33,000 per annum plus benefits.
