Feeling overworked and like you don’t have a good work/life balance? As a marketer you should not be, according to the latest figures from Glassdoor which suggest marketing execs and managers have among the best work/life balance of any job.
The survey, based on employee surveys carried out by 60,000 UK workers, asked people to report their satisfaction over their work/life balance where five was “very satisfied”, three was “ok” and one was “very dissatisfied.
“Marketing executive” came out as the sixth best job for work/life balance – achieving a rating of 3.8. Marketers in a more senior management role (typically earning around £40,000 as opposed to £25,000) also had a work/life balance of 3.8.
However, it is not all good news for marketers. A separate report from job site CV-Library found that people working in marketing “shouldn’t expect a pay rise this year”.
Its data shows that salaries in the industry increased by just 0.38% year on year in the third quarter. That makes the average annual salary £30,898.
There is also concern over the high concentration of marketing jobs in London – where the cost of living is typically much higher. Currently some 22% are based in the capital.
“It’s tough for most UK workers to survive in London with the sky-high cost of living, but it’s especially hard for marketers who are facing stagnant wages,” says Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library. “With so many skilled workers outside of the capital both businesses and professionals alike should consider opportunities in more cost-effective locations across the UK.”
